About The Rock Church
This Is Our Story
The Rock Church was founded in Monroe in 1984 by Jeff Knight’s parents Joe and Linda Knight. Jeff remembers, “Those early years when I was only a teenager were quite an experience. We would have church in my parents’ living room. It was just like many small groups meeting in homes today. It continued to grow to the point where we had parking issues.” Jeff’s parents were the kind of people who never met a stranger, so anyone who came for Bible study was invited in, eventually giving birth to a church. The church spent the early years growing in the city of Woodinville before returning back to Monroe in 1994, ten years into the journey.
Linda attended Monroe High School, where Jeff and his wife Melinda graduated as well. Pastor Joe was from Bothell, so having a church located in Monroe, Jeff explains, “It made perfect sense for God to move us back to our roots.”
The purchase of Bethel Assembly’s church building on Main Street was the location where Pastor Jeff would spend his early years as a Youth Pastor. Graduates of Central Washington University, Jeff and Melinda returned home with a call to serve young people. Jeff recalls, “Just before our senior year of college we both had a powerful God-sized experience. We were getting our degrees and suddenly God was pulling on our hearts to give our lives to serving Him.” Naturally they returned home and got involved right away, but success did not come right away.
Jeff and Melinda were working full-time jobs in construction and exercise physiology, respectively, and full-time at the church in the beginning. Jeff notes, “Serving God is the greatest Life to live, and we will not give anything less than 110% every day. It is a privilege to do what we do and we do not take it lightly.”
“Church has changed,” exclaimed one person returning to The Rock, “and I love it!” After the loss of Joe and Linda Knight, Jeff and Melinda stepped up and cast the vision net. “I want people to experience real Life, not some watered-down version. Too many people live day to day. Instead, I want them to experience life with a capital L,” says Jeff.
Connecting people to LIFE is how The Rock Church defines its mission today. “Christianity is not something done only on Sunday,” Jeff notes. “Being a Christ follower impacts every moment and every day.” Don’t just make a living, but make a Life! There is real potential to find meaningful relationships when you redefine your priorities to include church. You will find God, guidance and friends at The Rock Church.
Who We Are
Why do we exist?
The Rock Church exists to connect people to LIFE, which is our mission statement.
Jesus Christ is LIFE, and you connect to LIFE by allowing Him to transform you in every way.
Who are we reaching?
Our hope is to reach people with
1. No faith
2. Damaged faith
3. Active faith when it comes to Jesus Christ.
Where are we leading people?
At The Rock Church, we are taking people from the Crowd, to the Cause, to the Community.
Crowd is where people start. These large-group environments are the entry points to greater relationships with Jesus and people.
After being part of the Crowd for a season, it’s time to step up to the Cause of Christ- fully supporting the mission of His Church.
After picking up the Cause, people experience the wonderful Community of the Church, where people lead others to the Crowd, the Cause, and the Community.
From Crowd to Cause to Community, life long devotion to God, service to others, and reaching people with the cause of Christ becomes an intricate part of life.
This is where Connecting People to LIFE is lived out.
We are on a God-given mission, bigger than anything we can comprehend, more important then anything we’ve ever done, delivered by none other than Jesus Himself, the local Church. At the center of The Rock Church are the following values. They are the bedrock of all we do, immovable, cannot be compromised, detoured around or lured away. This is who we are; it is who you will become as you live your Christian life out with The Rock Church.
We Build From Blueprints – In order to build people and churches, generations and cities; we will follow the biblical design for life and church. We will deploy every creative means of communication imaginable to construct a culture that brings glory to God.
We are Recognized by What We are For – We will intentionally speak and act with edification, encouragement and faith over our people. We will proclaim the grace of Jesus rather than use our influence to condemn.
We are Passionate about Quality Time – The Rock Church will be the house of prayer Jesus envisioned and commissioned as a lifeline of power to intercede on behalf of generations in the earth today who do not know or experience Jesus Christ.
We are Unapologetic in our Love – We will not cater to personal preference in our mission to Connect People to Life. We are more focused with the people we are trying to reach than the people we are trying to keep.
We Stick to our Guns – We trust in the power of God for the restoration of people’s lives spirit, soul and body. We, the church, have all the weapons needed to help people solve their life dominating problems the work of Jesus Christ, the Word of God and the Holy Spirit.
We are Disneyland, not Vegas – Culture determines destination. We will be attractive to children and young people, creating a worship experience that boldly celebrates Jesus Christ with every generation.
We will not Pass Over Broken – Serving enables love. We place these acts of unparalleled love to flow out as the love of God flows in. Unequal emphasis on serving and giving.
We will be Found on the Extra Mile – We want to always demonstrate compassion, kindness, gentleness, passion, excellence and extravagance in every endeavor, checking the compass and map of progress as we travel.
We are a Community of Honor – We freely give honor to those alongside us, around us, near us, faraway from us, higher than us and underneath us because of how God has called and where God has positioned them.
We are a Seahawks game – We are not a community full of division; instead, we are a relational united force, under one leader, for one cause, to one end that all may know the King and extend the Kingdom.
We Frustrate the Stingy – The people and households of The Rock Church will continuously go above and beyond to give sacrificially to the work of God in our city.
We are Identified by Actions – We will be assessed by our seen and unseen thoughts, words and actions. We will continuously retain a posture of learning, repentance, faith and growth as we make new important discoveries.
What We Believe
There is one God, Creator and Ruler of everything. He eternally exists in three parts: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God’s Word is Truth. It was written by human authors under the influence, guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Scriptures are Divinely inspired, completely authoritative and free from error of any sort.
is the Son of God. He is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for our sin. He bodily arose from the dead, ascended into heaven, where at the right hand of God, He is now our Leader and Ambassador and is coming again a second time for the church.
The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify Jesus Christ, convict men of their need of Jesus Christ and restore the fallen believer by comforting, helping, guiding, empowering and indwelling the believer for Godly living and service.
was created and made in the image of God, yet fallen and separated from his Creator. Only through restoration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and life be obtained.
is a free gift from God. Only those who receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God. Man can never make up for his fallen and separated life by self-improvement and good deeds.
is a life separated for God and perfecting holiness in the fear of God as an expression of Christian faith. The Christian life is believing in God’s promises, purposes and power.
is the composition of all those who have, by faith, been restored by the Holy Spirit and united together as the body of Christ, of which Jesus is the head. The Rock Church is a body of believers committed to do their part in God’s big plan. God’s vision for the church is to establish His kingdom and be His craftsmanship. We are to worship and glorify God, be conformed to Christ’s image, emulate the works of Jesus and make disciples of all nations.
Man will exist eternally. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence and man will either exist separated from God by sin, or restored in Christ by forgiveness. God gives man eternal life upon believing and calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
