We don’t expect greater things from God because of our sin, which creates suspicions, skepticism, doubt, fear, and unbelief. In fact, we are quicker to blame God, doubt his authority in our lives, or over our situation. Our brokenness causes us to try harder to understand, fix, or remedy the things in our lives. But in fact, the very message of the gospel is the opposite of our effort! Jesus Christ was sent, not of our doing, not because of our need, but because God has greater things in store for us!
